WHO WE ARE
Protecting Animals Within San Antonio (P.A.W.S.)
is a foster-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue.
We are not a shelter and are 100% volunteer only. We do not have a facility.
As of January 2024, our intake is closed. We can not take any strays or owner surrenders because we do not have fosters.
**Meet and greets need to be scheduled with pet foster after an application is submitted.
ABOUT OUR WORK
P.A.W.S. is unique because we have been the ONLY foster-based rescue in Texas that saves animals, sponsors student groups AND teaches animal welfare education.
We present the youth in San Antonio with an opportunity to be a part of something where they can make an immediate difference. At Harlandale High School, we sponsor the P.A.W.S. Club. These students choose which shelter animals to save and become a part of their rescue story. Students assist during spay/neuter events and help teach our humane education curriculum to elementary/middle schools and through this, the community learns about responsible pet ownership and how to prevent cruelty to animals.
To date, P.A.W.S. has rescued over 800 dogs and cats.We have sponsored over 1500 free spay/neuter surgeries to the public at large by hosting mobile clinics through SNIPSA. We have provided over 400 spay/neuter surgeries, eye enucleations, and amputations for community-owned pets in need.
Over 300 students have participated in and been educated about animal cruelty and its prevention during our P.A.W.S. camps which were postponed when COVID hit.Every year we try to add new components to our curriculum. For example, in 2017, P.A.W.S. camp offered students the opportunity to work with certified CCPDT dog trainers to learn the tricks of the trade.
INCOMING NEGLECT CASE 2023

Dante is currently in foster care in Boerne recovering from severe malnutrition and neglect. He has moments of paralyzed fear and shakes. HAPPY TAILS REPORT 2022
Kira and Athena were in foster care for quite a while because they were not as social and friendly with people. However, they hit the jackpot when not only did their foster's boyfriend adopt one, but BOTH!
LONGEST DOG IN FOSTER CARE, STILL NEEDS FOREVER HOME
Buddy has been in foster care for over 730 days. Buddy is fully vetted, crate trained and house trained.
Buddy is great with indoor cats and most dogs, but he is very shy at first and needs patience and lots of treats to warm up. Once he does, you are his bested bud.
2024 intake is being done on a case by case basis due to limited, available fosters.
If you need to surrender an animal, contact the SA Humane Society or Austin Pets Alive to schedule an appointment. You can also check Next Door and the Facebook page SOS Save Our Strays for connecting with an owner or rescue.
If you have found an injured or lost animal, contact a nearby vet and have the animal scanned for a chip, and have the veterinarian call 311 for pick up by Animal Care Services. Please note that ACS is a kill shelter and any animals received or owner surrendered can be euthanized right away.

Following the passing of our beloved foster mom Marsha Fewell, we built Marsha's Mutt Hutt as a way to remember her legacy and continuing our mission to help homeless pets.
